Behaviour Policy

Our school has always had high expectations of our pupils' behaviour, using an approach that is informed by our school values and ethos, and an understanding that behaviour is a form of communication. We have prioritised developing positive relationships, since it is key to building trust and understanding between everyone - and sees everyone as an individual working together to build our community.

Over the Spring and Summer term of 2025, we have been reviewing how we implement these principles in practice, and have developed a new policy for behaviour in our school, further developing and enhancing the strategies we have always used.

Schools often have multiple rules. This can be confusing - and at times inconsistent! We have therefore decided to keep our rules to just three:
  • Ready - for learning and play, on time and with everything they need
  • Respectful - to everyone in their manner and attitudes
  • Safe - making sensible decisions when using equipment and taking risks
We have created several new documents, helping to explicitly outline how these rules apply in practice - the routines, expectations and consequences (both positive and negative!) in our school. This all helps to improve consistency and ensure everyone in our school is clear about what is expected.
  • Behaviour Blueprint - a snapshot summary of the approach, routines, expectations and consequences. Displayed around school.
  • Behaviour Curriculum - a detailed document outlining what is expected and how these are taught and when.
  • Positive Relationships and Behaviour Policy - the main policy document.
  • Graduated Response to Behaviour - a summary of the various levels of support available to us in school for when children need additional help.
Parents are encouraged to read all of these, but may find the best starting place is the 'Behaviour Blueprint' and the 'Behaviour Curriculum'.
